One of my favorite things to do in the writing community is lift other authors up! No matter where my author journey is, I'm proud of other authors for "making it." And this month I'm so proud to share my interview with the amazing author, and good friend of mine, AM Kay!
I met AM through a mutual friend in our community a week before she moved farther away, but that didn't stop us from bonding over our love of books and writing and sharing our struggles and successes. Having a writing buddy in the thick of things is the greatest tool a writer can have!
When AM asked me to be a beta reader, I immediately said yes! I also reviewed her book on Goodreads and Instagram. She graciously returned the favor by letting me interview her for my blog.
What is your new book and what is it about?

My debut novel, Bones of the Bellators, is an adult, high fantasy that follows the epic adventure of Lyvia Cantor, a lady-in-waiting, whose natural curiosity and connection to a long lost prophecy throws her into the life of a fugitive. You can expect action, adventure, romance and betrayal. Imagine Indiana Jones meets Game of Thrones meets Throne of Glass. If you enjoy tropes like elemental magic, chosen one, forced proximity, feisty FMCs and slow burn (open-door) romance, this plot-driven book might be the perfect cure to your book hangover!
How long did it take you to write?
It was about two years from putting pen to paper and publication, but it took me about five months to write the first draft. The remaining 8-19 months were spent editing, getting feedback from alpha and beta readers, editing some more, receiving developmental edits, editing some more, receiving line edits, editing more, and finally proofreading (over and over and over again).
Who was your most difficult character to write?
I didn’t find any of my characters difficult to write, but there are two scenes in the book that were particularly difficult to get on paper. These are perhaps the darkest scenes in the book, and forced me to go to a very fragile space internally to write them in a meaningful, thought out way. Without going into too much detail (and giving away some major spoilers), these were the scenes that really pushed the FMC to her limits emotionally.
Who’s your favorite character?
I have a hard time answering this, so I’m going to give you a few in no particular order: Lyvia, Nerissa, Isla, Drystan, and Ronan.
Who is your favorite author?
I love Rebecca Yarros, not just for her epic fantasy, but many of her romance books. In the Likely Event is one of my favorites. Sarah J Maas is a close second.
What are your top four places to visit?
New Zealand
Croatia
Thailand
Eagle River (WI)
Can you give us a hint about the next book in your series?
There are MANY twists and turns!!! The next book (#2 out of 4) will release fall of 2025 and will answer many of the questions that remained after book one. It also ends on a cliffhanger.
Where can we get more of AM Kay?
You can Bones of the Bellators at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, The Crafty Bookstore (if you want to shop local, please do!). For updates visit AM Kay's website or Instagram.
