About

I’m a teacher and mom with over 15 years of experience in the veterinary field. I have degrees in Journalism, Media Communications, and Electron Microscopy, and I’m a member of the Wisconsin Writers Association and Women’s Fiction Writers Association

One of my jobs as a child was maintaining the family pet cemetery, which included everything from kittens to sheep. When I realized that helping animals was probably the only thing I was good at, I began scrubbing cages at the small town veterinary clinic but I worked my way up to receptionist, veterinary assistant, surgery assistant, and practice manager. I went back to school for Electron Microscopy and then Journalism, where I was fascinated with the rise of social media, and studied the way it changed the way we look at ourselves. After school I marketed for a university veterinary hospital, writing stories highlighting pet owners and their veterinary experiences. Alongside that role, I managed blogs and developed websites.

Soon after, I met my love interest, a rugged outdoorsman, before getting married and having two kids and finally becoming a stay-at-home mom. Now I work as a teacher, mom, and writer.

I love learning the craft of writing and have been to numerous writer conferences, and was a recipient of the 2024 Wisconsin Writers Association scholarship. When I’m struggling with my writing, I go to conferences, take online classes, and reach out to my writer friends. My most recent class was Writing Tension by Cece Lyra. I also love books about writing; my favorites are written by Anne Lamott.
